01 Jan 2020 – My Year of Adventure
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Here it is, the very first day of 2020 and I want to focus on adventure throughout the year.
In 2018, I read The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman as part of my homework with my life coach. I discovered my main love language is quality time, which was not surprising. But it helped me in my relationships because I knew that was not only my biggest gift to give to others, but the best gift they could give to me.
Since then I’ve focused on quality time to grow, deepen and strengthen the important relationships in my life, including the one with myself.
I wouldn’t say I’m an introvert, but I definitely enjoy my quality time alone (as part of my self-care routine). I spend so much time in service to others, that I really need that down time to balance it all out. While I love the ability to see several friends or all of my family at once, I’ve found it can be overwhelming to me as an empath, and ultimately not as fulfilling as one-on-one time, despite being convenient.
This year I’d like to go on one bigger trip and on one smaller (long weekend) per quarter. I also plan on having two weekends to myself each month, so I can do day trips or spend quality time with friends.
My other goal is to do one-on-one trips with the people I love being with. My dad and I used to travel a lot together and I always cherished those trips. I’m hopeful he and I can do one trip, just the two of us. I’d like to visit my sister in Phoenix for a long weekend and have a fun trip with just my brother somewhere we’ve both never been. I also can’t wait to travel with my best friend and her daughter and have an adventure together. I hope it’s something we can do as an annual tradition.
And even if I cannot explore new places with others, I look forward to checking them out myself. Now, I may not get to all of these in one year, but here’s my Wishlist of places I haven’t been to yet (in no particular order):
- New Orleans
- Santa Fe/Taos
- Vancouver
- Bali
- Australia
- Switzerland
- Yosemite
- Portland
I can be a homebody, but I’m seeking and craving adventure through exploring new cities and cultures. If you have any recommendations for any of the above places, please let me know in the comments below.
And if you have decided on a theme word for 2020, I can’t wait to hear what it is!
