Mock Headboard Makeover

Overview

One of my favorite ideas had to do with creating a mock headboard for my bed. I wasn’t able to paint the walls in my rental, and I didn’t want to spend the money to purchase a fancy headboard, so I put on my thinking cap and came up with a great, affordable solution.

I don’t know about you, but I’m obsessed with Paper Source  – not just for their cards, but for their beautiful wrapping papers. The wrapping papers are really unique and whenever I’m in the store I enjoy looking through them.

First I took the dimensions of the mattress along the wall to make sure I had enough paper to fit. The sheets that are sold individually are a bit smaller than the ones sold in rolls (the rolls include two larger sheets, not an entire roll like most wrapping papers). I opted for a roll of a light and dark gray chevron pattern. The two pieces were the perfect dimension for my queen-size bed, and at $7.95 it definitely fit my budget.

If you opt for the smaller pieces of individual paper, I recommend buying four. You can cut them down, but it’s best to have more than less. Plus you can use the scraps in your medicine cabinet, to line shelves, to make cards, or wrap gifts.

I used small balls of museum putty to adhere the paper to the walls. This allows me to remove it and re-use it in another location, or change it out if I change up my bedding. It took less than five minutes, but the entire room felt transformed!
